Higher Education

At PSE, our efforts are focused on representing support staff in public education, both K-12 and higher education. All of our resources and energy are devoted to developing and maintaining a quality public education system. This includes meaningful and affordable college education opportunities for graduates and life-long students.

Through this process, PSE is committed to living-wage jobs and benefits for those individuals who contribute to the success of our education system – educational support professionals.

PSE is a strong union that has represented higher education staff since 2000. PSE is experienced in fighting for and supporting the unique issues, needs and situations faced in the higher education setting.

PSE is empowering employees to build an organization that gives voice to the needs of professional educational staff in higher education. In addition, PSE higher education members are represented on the Board of Directors and Legislative Council.

PSE higher education members work as fiscal techs, information specialists, library paraprofessionals, program assistants, secretaries and classroom support techs, as well as administrative assistants, accountants, architects, nurses, and scientific techs, just to name a few.

Western Washington University (WWU), Bellingham

We have been highly successful in building a strong local union representing 300 managers, supervisors and professional/technical staff members at Western Washington University.

PSE leaders at WWU celebrated a major victory in January 2008 when the state labor board determined the university administration consistently failed to negotiate in good faith. In addition, Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) instituted extraordinary remedies to help WWU administrators comply with state labor laws.

Central Washington University (CWU), Ellensburg
More than 130 classified members at Central Washington University joined the PSE family in 2008 and more employees are adding to our group each week! We’re building a new and exciting union at CWU. Local leaders negotiated a new contract. PSE fought for and won a 2.0% COLA to be distributed on July 1, 2008. We’re awaiting ratification by the Legislature on a second contract.
