If you are interested in serving on the PSE Board of Directors, here’s your opportunity to become a candidate and run for a position.
The PSE Board of Directors consists of four state officers and 13 Zone Directors elected at convention to serve a two-year term. This year, elections will be held for President, Secretary, and Zone Directors for zones 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12.
All board members are volunteers who work regular classified jobs. They receive reimbursement for expenses, paid release time from their jobs when necessary, and a $50 per day fee to attend meetings. Board meetings are held approximately six times a year, often on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday. To qualify for office, candidates must be active members in good standing.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
It is the responsibility of the President to preside over all meeting of the Board of Directors, work with the Executive board to develop meeting agendas, arrange the order of business for the PSE convention, identify members’ needs and concerns, formulate strategies, and establish performance goals for the Board of Directors. The President shall appoint committee chairs in collaboration with and approval of the Executive Board and other positions as provided in the bylaws and shall serve as an ex-officio member of all committees. The President serves as the spokesperson for PSE. With the advice and consent of the Board of Directors, the President shall work with the Executive Director to achieve the mission, vision, goals and objectives of PSE. The President shall keep the Board of Directors and membership fully informed of the general state of the organization.
The Secretary shall ensure that the minutes of Executive Board Meetings, Board of Director’s meetings, and the PSE convention are duly recorded. The minutes shall be transmitted to the Executive Director and chapter presidents. All minutes of Board of Directors meetings, including any appropriate additions and/or corrections, shall be approved by the Board prior to distribution and shall be signed by the President and Secretary. The minutes shall be distributed no more than thirty (30) work days after the meeting date.
Sets policy and organizational goals, adopts legislative positions, ensures audits, sets the annual organizational budget and reviews the performance of the executive director. Budgets for and plans PSE activities for the zone. In addition to attending all required board meetings, the zone director must hold at least two meetings per year of the zone council.
HOW TO ANNOUNCE YOUR CANDIDACY
Members interested in running for an office need to complete a DECLARATION OF INTENT TO RUN FOR PSE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. The complete candidate packet includes this form and the following materials:
- A candidate photograph submitted as a high resolution jpeg file
- A candidate statement which shall not exceed 250 words. The statement should provide your qualifications for the office and the reason(s) you are running. Please remember that PSE staff can not edit your candidate statements. If your submission is over the word limit the staff will notify you and return it to you for correction. Nothing will be posted on the PSE website until the statement is in compliance with the word count
- The Declaration of intent to Run, signed and affirmed that no funds from dues’ assessments or an employer will be or have been used to promote your candidacy.
The Nominating Chair, Lee Novak recommends that you file early so members have an opportunity to learn about you and about your views prior to election. To have your statement published on the PSE website and included in the convention brochure, your candidate packet must be received by close of business on May 25, 2018.
