Governor Inslee Approves Higher Ed, Health Care CBAs in Proposed 2017-2019 Budget

Governor Jay Inslee released his proposed 2017-2019 budget this week, which includes funding for PSE’s collective bargaining agreements at WWU, CWU, and WSU. The budget also includes the 2017-2019 health care collective bargaining agreement between the Health Care Labor Coalition and the State.

Governor Inslee’s approval of PSE’s collective bargaining agreements sets up a much-anticipated fight in the state Legislature over these agreements during the 2017 Legislative Session. The 2017 Legislative Session begins on January 9, 2017, and concludes on April 23, 2017. However, PSE anticipates the Legislature will likely need at least one special session to conclude the budget. The budget must be completed by June 30, 2017.

Given the importance of this Legislative Session to all of PSE’s members, including those in Higher Education, PSE will be hosting several Lobby Days in Olympia during the session. Please join us on the Hill to make it clear to your representatives how important it is to fund these contracts! Stay tuned for updates and details!
