Political Assembly
Political Assembly is intended to train first timers on how to advocate for the issues we will be working on in the 2012 legislative session. After training for a couple of hours, we will get in buses and visit Randy Dorn in his offices, then go to the Capitol to see where legislator offices are, come back to visit with other members in your area to prepare for visits with legislators, have dinner and entertainment, breakfast on Monday and then visits with legislators in their offices, rally on the Capitol steps, continued visits with legislators, lunch and debrief, and then head home.
Some of the issues that will certainly come up that we will be preparing for:
1. K 12 Health Insurance Reform
2. Protecting Higher Education funding
3. Protecting K 12 Education funding, especially levy equalization.
4. Opposing the 4 day school week until appropriate classified employee protections are included within the bill.
5. Opposing charter schools until appropriate classified employee protections are included within the bill.
Once again, PSE is looking for 100 members who have never been involved with our lobbying efforts before to join Political Assembly on Jan. 15 and 16.
The event, hosted in Olympia, is a chance to learn how to talk to your representative and lobby in Olympia for education issues. On Sunday, Jan. 15, members will get a tour of the Capital and then return on Monday, Jan. 16, to share your opinion with your regional legislator.
Lobby Day
Veteran PSE activists are invited to Olympia on Feb. 20 to advocate for issues that impact our schools’ classified employees. This is a wonderful opportunity to help shape the future of Washington’s schools.
For more information, download the flyer and keep checking in the PSE website in coming weeks for more details.
